Most Burkina Faso Citizens Are Taking Part In The Registration For The NHIS Card In Upper West

The Upper West Regional Directorate of National Health Insurance Scheme has Registered over 32, 000 beneficiaries in the First Half of the Year.

Mr Samuel Lobber, the Upper West Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) disclosed the development in a close door meeting to the Media in Upper West Region. Mr Lobber tagged technology as one of the reasons why the process has been successful, he added that the *929# initiative introduced has gone a long way to address most of the concerns they have been facing.

Meanwhile some health workers in border towns within Upper West Region have disclosed that foreigners have flooded the database of the NHIS scheme, according to a health worker in Wa West District, bordering Burkina Faso to the West, she explained that some foreigners cross over to register for NHIS cards, she added that such people at the long round bring more family members and relations, she added that such people occupy most hospital beds and due to the NHIS cards they posses, they pay nothing to the state, she suggested that such people should be charged different levies from Ghanaians in order to assist in mobilizing more revenue for the country.

Some workers in Gwollu, Lambussie, Nandom, Lawra and Nadowli-Kaleo District have also complained of such developments.

Some Foreigners have resorted to the NHIS as their source of reliable health care delivery without paying enough to the state.
