The Northern Region which only last month had zero COVID -19 cases has now recorded 21 new cases, making it a hot spot area among the five regions in the North of the country. The new cases mean the region has now recorded a little over 1,600 cumulative cases since the advent of the virus into the country in March last year. The Upper West Region follows behind with 14 cases whiles the Savanna Region which has recorded the least cumulative case count in the country lies third with nine active cases.
The Upper East and North – East Regions both have four cases. Whiles other regions in the North have managed stability, the case count in the Northern Region continue to increase as the area per figures from the Ghana Health Service, only last Friday had only ten new cases which has now increased through the weekend to more than 100%.
Nationally, the Greater Region continues to lead the pack with 3323 active cases. Ashanti and Volta Regions complete the top three with 1468 and 478 active cases respectively. Available figures from the Ghana Health Service show that 409 new cases have been recorded as at this morning, bringing the total active cases to 6969. Number of deaths has also skyrocketed to 874 and total recoveries now stand at 100,383.
